About Dr. Kelly

I am an empathic, empowering, and experienced therapist who uses an integrative, individually tailored approach to meet you wherever you may be on your journey, providing support and skills in a relaxed, conversational therapeutic environment.

My goal is to help clients feel comfortable and supported so they can get the most out of the therapy process, whether it’s their first time in treatment or they have been working in therapy for years.

I am SOGI (Sexual Orientation Gender Identity) competent and believe that people of all abilities, religions, sexual orientations, races, and genders deserve to feel safe, respected, and understood within the therapeutic relationship. I am a sex-positive and kink-allied professional and a strong supporter of human rights, civil rights, equity, and inclusion. And it’s not just the humans I care about — I share my life with rescue pups and am dedicated to animal welfare as well.

I believe therapy should be a place where people can speak openly about the full complexity of their lives without fear of judgment. That includes conversations about identity, relationships, sexuality, and substance use. When substance use is a part of the conversation, I take a harm reduction approach that emphasizes curiosity about each person’s experiences, safety, and thoughtful decision-making.

I stay actively engaged in developments within the mental health field and pursue ongoing training in emerging and innovative therapeutic approaches. This includes work related to therapist-assisted altered states of consciousness — an area of growing interest as the field of psychology continues to evolve.

Journey Psychological Services is an inclusive and welcoming practice. All services are provided from a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safety, collaboration, and respect for each client’s lived experience.

Education and Experience

I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) and over a decade of clinical experience working across a wide range of treatment settings. I spent the early part of my career working full-time in inpatient hospitals with forensic patients, gaining invaluable experience treating severe mental illness and personality disorders in highly structured clinical environments. In order to balance and broaden my clinical experience, I also worked additional part-time roles as an adjunct professor and in private practice.

In 2014, I joined a company at the forefront of telehealth and began offering online therapy (teletherapy) to individuals coping with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and other life challenges. This work expanded my understanding of how meaningful and effective therapy can be in an online setting. In late 2020, I transitioned fully to telehealth and founded Journey Psychological Services.

I feel fortunate to have had many people from diverse backgrounds share their life stories with me. These conversations have shaped the clinician I am today and strengthened my ability to help people navigate a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

Additionally, I have obtained specialized training and experience working with specific populations, including people struggling with perfectionism, adults who experienced parentification as children or who were raised by emotionally immature parents, and transgender individuals seeking therapy or support related to gender transition and gender-affirming medical procedures. I have also completed additional professional training related to therapist-assisted altered states of consciousness.

And most recently, I received certification in perimenopause and menopause related mental health care.

Start Your Journey…

Often people come to therapy for one specific concern, only to discover that other parts of their lives begin to unfold as the work progresses. Therapy can provide a space to explore these experiences with the support of a knowledgeable, experienced, and compassionate professional.

Note: Not all symptoms or mental health issues are appropriate for teletherapy; please schedule a complimentary consultation to determine if teletherapy will meet your needs.
