Rates & Payment

Intake Appointment (first session) – $265

Individual Therapy (55 minutes) – $250

Rates for all services are reviewed prior to beginning treatment. Extended sessions or specialized services may vary in cost and will always be discussed in advance. Payment is due at the time of each session unless another arrangement has been made. Major credit and debit cards, as well as HSA cards, are accepted.

Therapy fees vary depending on a clinician’s training, specialization, experience, and location. My rates reflect doctoral-level education, years of clinical experience, specialized training, and a private practice structure designed to support focused, individualized care.

A limited number of reduced-fee appointments are offered each year for individuals experiencing significant financial hardship. These spots are currently full, and due to demand, a waitlist is not maintained.

I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. Clients pay for sessions at the time of service. If your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, I can provide a monthly superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm your out-of-network mental health benefits, deductible, and reimbursement rates.

Otherwise, you can choose to see me privately and not involve your insurance at all. See why many of my clients choose this option below.

Many of my clients choose to work privately because it allows for greater flexibility, privacy, and autonomy in treatment.

When using insurance for psychotherapy, a mental health diagnosis is required and becomes part of your medical record. Insurance companies may also request documentation to determine medical necessity and approve continued sessions. Additionally, insurance plans often limit the number of sessions covered and restrict which providers you may see.

Working outside of insurance allows us to focus solely on your goals without session limits, medical necessity reviews, or third-party oversight. Many clients appreciate the added privacy and control this structure provides. This can also be particularly helpful for individuals seeking therapy for personal growth, relationship concerns, work stress, or other challenges that may not meet insurance criteria for coverage.
Operating independently also allows me to maintain a smaller, focused caseload and devote my time and attention to clinical work rather than time consuming administrative negotiations with insurance companies.

If you have questions about out-of-network benefits or would like help understanding your options, I’m happy to discuss that with you.

Schedule & Logistics

Journey Psychological Services is a fully online practice. I provide telehealth services to clients in 42 states through PSYPACT participation and individual state licensure. All sessions and services are conducted via secure, HIPAA compliant video, so there is no physical office location.

Online therapy allows for flexibility, discretion, and continuity of care. Many clients appreciate being able to attend sessions from their home, office, or while traveling without the added time and stress of commuting.

If you’re ready to move forward, you may schedule your first full session or a complimentary 15-minute consultation using the link below.

Select “Psychological Intake” to book your first full appointment.

Select “Initial Consultation” if you’d prefer a brief call to discuss fit and ask questions before scheduling.

If you would like to reach out directly, you may also use the contact page. I respond to messages within two business days.

Sessions are scheduled Monday through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Limited evening or Friday appointments may be available and are scheduled at a premium rate due to extended availability.

Standard therapy sessions are 55 minutes in length. This allows time for meaningful depth while maintaining focus and structure within each appointment.

Extended sessions and focused intensives (up to three hours) are available when clinically appropriate. These are often helpful for trauma work, complex processing, or clients who prefer more concentrated periods of treatment.

If you are unable to attend a session, please cancel before the calendar day immediately preceding your appointment to avoid a cancellation fee.

Your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you and is not offered to other clients once scheduled. Because short-notice cancellations are typically unable to be rebooked, cancellation fees help maintain the stability and sustainability of the practice, allowing session times to remain consistent and reliably available.

The policy is not intended to be punitive, and exceptions are made for true emergencies. Advanced notice of any schedule changes to avoid these fees is appreciated.

Examples:

  • If your appointment is scheduled for Monday, it must be canceled no later than Saturday at 11:59 p.m.
  • If your appointment is scheduled for Thursday, it must be canceled no later than Tuesday at 11:59 p.m.

The fee is $100 for the first missed session and the
full session fee for any additional missed sessions in which appropriate notice is not provided.

Therapy Process and About Me

Our first session is focused on understanding the full picture — not just the current problem, but the patterns, pressures, and experiences that may be contributing to it.

Many of the people I work with are insightful and capable, yet find themselves stuck in recurring dynamics, perfectionistic loops, or internal conflicts that don’t resolve with logic alone. The initial session allows me to begin identifying those themes and to understand how your history, relationships, and environment may be interacting with your present concerns.

You do not need to arrive with everything fully organized. Early sessions focus on identifying patterns, clarifying what feels unclear or repetitive, and beginning to define what meaningful change could look like.
By the end of the session, we will outline initial treatment goals and establish a focused direction for our work together.

I work with thoughtful, capable adults who are accustomed to managing a great deal on their own. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals who appear composed externally yet feel internally stuck, self-critical, or emotionally exhausted.

A significant portion of my work is with adults who grew up in emotionally immature or unpredictable family systems and are now untangling the long-term impact of those dynamics. This often includes perfectionism, difficulty trusting one’s own emotions, over-responsibility, people-pleasing, or feeling chronically misunderstood despite being highly competent.

I also work closely with transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive adults navigating identity development, family or relationship dynamics, medical decision-making, and the psychological impact of living within systems that may not always feel affirming or safe. My practice is explicitly gender-affirming and trauma-informed.

Across concerns — including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship strain, and burnout — the common thread is a desire for depth, clarity, and meaningful change.

I place significant value on the therapeutic relationship itself. Trust, consistency, and psychological safety create the conditions in which meaningful change becomes possible. Without a strong working relationship, even the most effective techniques fall short. For that reason, our work together is collaborative, transparent, and grounded in mutual respect.

My approach is insight-oriented, relational, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I focus on identifying patterns — particularly those rooted in early relational experiences — that continue to influence how you think, feel, and respond in the present.

While I draw from various therapeutic frameworks, therapy is not about applying a rigid technique. It is about understanding how your internal systems developed, what currently maintains distress, and how meaningful change can occur in a sustainable way.

Depending on your needs, treatment may include structured skill-building, deeper trauma processing, or exploration of long-standing relational themes. The goal is not surface-level coping, but lasting and meaningful shifts.

Weekly sessions are recommended at the outset of treatment. Consistency is important, particularly in the early stages of treatment, as it allows us to build momentum and establish a clear direction for the work.

The overall length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the complexity of the concerns you are addressing, and the depth of work you wish to engage in.

Some clients seek short-term, focused treatment around a specific concern. Others choose longer-term work to address longstanding patterns, relational dynamics, or trauma histories. Meaningful change often requires time, consistency, and reflection — particularly when we are working with deeply rooted themes.

There are also individuals who, even in the absence of an acute condition, find therapy to be a valuable ongoing space for reflection, accountability, and support. For them, therapy becomes an intentional part of maintaining psychological health and clarity over time.

We will regularly revisit your goals and adjust the frequency and direction of treatment as needed to ensure our work remains purposeful and aligned with what you want to achieve.

Therapy with me is not built around rigid assignments, and I do not routinely use worksheets. That said, meaningful change rarely happens in isolation from your day-to-day life.

Between sessions, I may suggest reflective exercises, journaling prompts, practical “experiments,” or regulation strategies when helpful. Sometimes this involves noticing how you respond in certain situations, testing a new boundary, or approaching a familiar dynamic in a different way.

Any between-session work is collaborative and purposeful — intended to deepen insight, support emotional regulation, and reinforce progress rather than create pressure or busywork.

Many of the people I work with are highly capable and accustomed to managing challenges independently. Therapy is not about replacing that strength; it is about examining patterns that may not shift through effort or self-reflection alone. Often, clients come to therapy not because they lack skill or resilience, but because they want greater clarity, flexibility, or depth than they’ve been able to access on their own. Therapy provides an intentional, confidential space to think clearly, identify blind spots, and move forward with greater self-awareness.

Medication can be an effective tool for managing certain symptoms, and for some individuals it plays an important role in treatment. However, medication alone does not address underlying patterns, relational dynamics, or coping strategies that may contribute to ongoing distress.

Therapy focuses on understanding and shifting those deeper processes. For many clients, insight, behavioral change, and emotional processing create benefits that medication cannot provide on its own.

When appropriate, therapy and medication can work well together. I collaborate with prescribing providers as needed to ensure coordinated and thoughtful care.

Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy reading, creative projects, live music, traveling, and the occasional weekend Netflix binge. I’m also a lifelong learner and a recovering perfectionist who continues to practice flexibility and balance in my own life.

Much of my free time is spent with my dog, Maisie, who keeps me active and grounded.

Insurance

Dr. Kelly is considered an out-of-network provider, which means that she does not participate with any insurance companies. She will provide you with a detailed receipt (superbill) to submit to your insurance company for out-of-network benefits reimbursement. The rates of reimbursement will depend on your plan, but often services are covered partially or in full.

Please contact your insurance provider to verify how your plan compensates you for mental health services. Journey Psychological Services does not interface directly with your insurance company at any time – if you plan to use your health insurance to receive reimbursement please refer to the guide below to ensure you will be reimbursed prior to beginning services.

How to Verify Out-Of-Network Benefits:

Set aside 15-30 minutes to contact your health insurer prior to starting therapy. Have your health insurance card, demographic information for the client and the primary insurer (if they are different), and a piece of paper/pen handy for your call. Write down the name of the representative you speak to, along with the time and date, and any reference numbers provided to you.

Ask your insurance provider the following questions to help determine your benefits:

Do I have a health insurance plan that includes mental health benefits?
  • Do I have a behavioral health/mental health policy with out-of-network benefits?
  • What (if any) are the requirements or pre-authorizations required to use out-of-network benefits?
  • Do I need written approval or a referral from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?
  • What percentage of services is covered? What is my co-insurance?
  • If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
  • What is the calendar start date that my policy uses to determine a “benefit year”?
    • Some companies use the standard calendar to reset benefits, while other have an internal calendar, such as April 1 – March 31
  • If so, what is the limit?
  • How many sessions do I have left?
  • Are there are restrictions on types of sessions (diagnostic interview, individual sessions, family sessions, group therapy)?
  • Can claims be submitted electronically? If so, how?
  • What is the turn around time on reimbursement funds after the claim is submitted?

Any Other Questions

Please contact Journey Psychological Services for any additional questions you may have.
